For a small number of us, winter also means preparing for next year's baseball season. This newsletter is our effort to keep you informed about activities already underway to get CFR Little League ready our 2012 spring and summer seasons. Last year we began a five year plan to rebuild CFR and put our league on solid ground into the future. Last year saw CFR increase enrollment by 10%, introduce coaching clinics, and run several players clinics throughout the season. We also made a concerted effort to staff our convenor roles in order to streamline communication to coaches and parents. This is year two of that plan. Just like last year, we will place a great deal of emphasis on player development and coaching as well as communication programs. What makes the 2012 season even more exciting for CFR is that, in addition to continuing with our plan, CFR has won the privilege of hosting the 2012 Ontario Little League Championships. This is a significant event for CFR and we have already started preparing for the event. While provincials are exciting, our goal this is to make the 2012 spring and summer seasons as positive, productive, and enjoyable as possible for all CFR players and parents. Welcome to our 2012 season. It promises to be a memorable one. Pete Loyen President CFR Little League Winter Baseball is Back Player Development is one of the four pillars of our league. To develop our players, CFR offers year-round baseball. CFR is pleased to have Coach Dean Chamberlin back to run the 2012 CFR Winter Baseball Program. This is Coach Dean's third season putting our young Cardinals through their paces. This year the program will segment the players by capabilities to ensure a productive, safe, and enjoyable winter for all attendees. Details on the program are below. When Saturdays January 14 to April 7 Beginner 1:00-2:30pm Intermediate 2:30-4:00pm Advanced 4:00-6:00pm Where Notre Dame High School Gym, 710 Broadview Avenue Cost $100 per player (12 weeks) For registration details visit our website www.cfrllott.ca. CFR is Hosting the 2012 Provincial Championships 2012 is a significant year for CFR. For the first time in decades, we are hosting the Ontario Little League Major Division Provincial Championships. The planning effort is already underway, led by our tournament organizers, Clark and Jane Adams. Work has already begun to refurbish Britannia Park (the host park for the 2012 Provincials), sponsors are being sought and tournament details are being solidified. Lots of work remains to be done so if you would like to help in some capacity, please call Jane or Clark at 613-274-7579 or email them at 2012majorprovincials at cfrllott.ca. This year's executive has a number of people in new roles. This year's voting executive members are: Pete Loyen, President Cynthia Bruketa, VP Administration and Finance Randy Baker, VP Baseball Operations Douglas Pelchat, Umpire in Chief Chris Kazen, Director Player Development & Coaching Kathleen Kazen, Registrar Vania Karam, Treasurer There are numerous other volunteers who have committed their time and effort to help make the CFR league a success in 2012. For the complete list of the CFR executive, please visit: http://cfrllott.ca/cont_Executive.html Volunteers Needed While we have a number of key executive roles filled, our league is run by people like you - people who want to make a difference and help kids in our community play baseball. We are constantly looking for volunteers to coach, umpire, join our executive, or help run tournaments. The most critical roles are the Convenor positions for our spring season. If you are interested in joining our team, please contact cfr_vpadmin at cfrllott.ca. We will also spend the coming months reaching out to people in order to fill remaining key leadership roles.
