Q. When does the spring season start?

A. The Spring season begins the week of May 6nd for all divisions except Majors. All Major level teams begin their season with a tournament on Saturday May 5th at Ainsley.

The spring season ends around the last week in June. Rookie, Minor, Major, Junior and Senior have playoffs scheduled for that time. T-ball has a BBQ and participation mementos for all players.

Q. How much time does the baseball season entail?

A. The schedule depends on what level your child is playing.

T-Ball children play Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6:00p.m. until 7:30p.m.. Each session is broken down into two parts. They will either play a game for 40 minutes have a 10 minute snack break and then another 40 minute skills drill or vice versa.

Rookie children play Mondays and Wednesdays from 6:00p.m. until about 8:00p.m.. In addition coaches will often hold one practice per week. The children are also eligible and encouraged to attend special clinics, which are held on Saturdays in May and early June.

Minor children will play primarily on Tuesdays and Thursdays with some Sunday games from 6:00p.m. until about 8:00p.m.. In addition coaches will often hold one practice per week. The children are also eligible and encouraged to attend special clinics, which are held on Saturdays in May and early June.

Major children play two games per week on a rotating schedule from Sunday to Thursday night from 6:00p.m. until about 8:00p.m.. In addition coaches will often hold one practice per week. The children are also eligible and encouraged to attend special clinics, which are held on Saturdays in May and early June.

Junior children play two games per week on a rotating schedule from Sunday to Thursday from 6:00p.m. until about 8:30p.m.. In addition coaches will often hold one practice per week. The children are also eligible and encouraged to attend special clinics, which are held on Saturdays in May and early June.

Senior children play two games per week on a rotating schedule from Sunday to Thursday from 6:00p.m. until about 8:30p.m.. In addition coaches will often hold one practice per week. The children are also eligible and encouraged to attend special clinics, which are held on Saturdays in May and early June.

Q. Does my child need to attend all games, practices and clinics?

A. For T-ball this is not required because all games are “pick-up games”.

For Rookie level and above, it is important that you notify your coach if your child will not be able to attend games. A minimum of eight players is required for each game in order not to forfeit so it is unfair to the rest of the players on the team if this happens. With notice, coaches can often get substitutes and/or reschedule the game.

Practices and clinics are not compulsory however they are strongly encouraged, as actual games leave no time for the coaches to work with your player to improve their skills. If players do not attend practices and/or the clinics where a more one-on-one approach is possible, for safety reasons, a child with little baseball experience may not get the chance to try as many positions.

We have worked hard to develop specialized clinics with qualified instructors in order to help improve our player’s skill levels. There is no additional cost for these clinics.

Q. Where do the games take place?

A. For T-Ball and Rookie, your child will be playing with other CFR players at Frank Ryan Park.

At the Minor level your child will be playing at Frank Ryan, Britannia or Pinecrest parks.

At the Major level your child will be playing at Ainsley or Pinecrest.

For the Junior and Senior levels, teams are in an interlock system with the remainder of the District 2 teams (Pinecrest, Kanata, East Nepean and West Carleton/Arnprior) and play at fields throughout the city. One game per week is held at home : for Juniors - Hanlon Park and for Seniors - Britannia Park whereas the second would be an “away” game at the other team’s home field.

At the Major and Minor levels, games are only held at Pinecrest if the numbers warrant us interlocking with them. Last season, Minor and Major teams played spring ball in a rotation consisting of CFR and Pinecrest teams. It should be noted that playoffs are only among the CFR teams.

Q. What does my child need?

A. Your child will need a batting helmet, glove, protective cup (jock/jill).  Players must also wear pants. Shorts are not permitted.

For spring ball specific baseball pants are not required however they do provide more protection especially for the older children when sliding as they will often have double stitching and layers at the knees.

For summer ball all players must wear black baseball pants with red socks.

A. As a courtesy to our parents, CFR does have a limited supply of pants, belts and socks available for purchase. Supplies will be available for sale at the various try-out sessions.

Alternatively, pants can be bought from various local sports stores. The CFR colours required for players playing in our summer league are black pants, red belt and red socks.

Q. Is there a Summer League?

A. Yes, there is a summer league that runs from July 1st through to the end of August. This is a competitive season and only players who have played in the spring season can play during the summer.

There is a formal try-out process for these teams. We would encourage you to contact either your spring coach or CFR’s Director of Player Development (Chris Kazen) to learn more details about the Summer Competitive Season.
