At the beginning of each season, every coach is provided with a game bag containing bats, game balls, practice balls and catcher's gear appropriate for the team's age group. The coach may subsequently contact the Equipment Manager to arrange for changes, for example a left-handed catcher's mitt or larger catcher's equipment to accommodate a player.
In addition to the equipment dispensed, the league may have available other items for use by the coaches, such as T's, pitching machines and practice bases. Contact the Equipment Manager to arrange to borrow these.
Game balls should be reserved for scheduled games. Generally, the home team coach is resonsible for supplying one new ball and one other, which might be slightly used. At the end of the game, coaches should retreive balls from the umpires. Once a ball has been used in a game, it can be added to the practice group.
At $80 (or more) per dozen, balls can end up being a significant part of the cost to to the league. For this reason, it's important that as many used balls as possible be returned to the Equipment Manager at the end of the season for recycle as practice balls the following year.
Bats provided meet the requirements specified by Little League. Players, in addition may provide their own bats, but should be approved by umpires prior to use in a game.
At the end of the season, equipment bags and contents should be returned to the Equipment Manager
At each field, game equipment is stored in a designated location, usually a field bunker. The equipment generally consists of umpire gear (mask, shin pads and chest protector), bases and chalk and a chalker to mark the field. It is the responsibility of the home team coach to set the field up prior to the game, with bases in the correct positions and store everything away at the end.
