Welcome to the CFR Newsletter
|
February 2011
|
|
|
Dear CFR Little League Parent or
Participant,
This is the first CFR Little League Newsletter of
2011. Your CFR Executive has been working hard to prepare for the
coming season. We hope the following is informative and starts the
yearning to be standing on sweet green fields of grass cheering the
players on, or better still, leading them as a coach, team manager,
scorekeeper or umpire.

Launch of
NEW CFR Website
|
|
|
The CFR Executive is proud
to announce that we have given the old "heave ho" to the
yellow and green look of the previous website in order to make way
for a site which reflects the CFR colours and provides a fresh, new
look. With the assistance of our Official Creative and Print
Partner, INDUSTRYimages, we now have a new CFR logo which you’ll
notice on the masthead of the site. Hopefully, this new ‘look
and feel’, with more in-depth content, will provide a better source
of information from which we can grow. We've tried to
minimize the imperfections at start-up but you'll probably find a
few. If you care to share, let the Webmaster
know and we'll make sure to fix them.

Winter Ball SOLD OUT and Underway
|
|
We are pleased to report we have had an overwhelming
response to our Winter Ball program this year. With over 50
children, both levels have sold out and are well underway.
Coach Dean Campbell is putting the kids through a comprehensive
course of skills development and conditioning. By the looks
on their faces, they’re having lots of fun! Thanks to all the
parents who registered their children. We are confident that
your kids will be hitting the diamond this spring, ready to go.

Spring Registration NOW OPEN!
|
|
|
Even though there’s snow on
the ground, we are happy to announce that registration for CFR’s
Spring baseball program has begun. This year CFR volunteers
have set up registration locations across our district providing
you with many opportunities to register your son or daughter over
the next few months. Parents also have the option to mail in
their registration. You can find more registration details
and forms under the Registration tab of our new website http://cfrllott.ca/parents.html. We welcome new ball players at any
level so think about inviting friends to join in the fun!
|
Children’s Fitness Tax Credit
|
|
Registration
fees paid to CFR qualify for a federal government Fitness Tax
Credit. You can claim this tax credit for each child who was
under 16 at any time during the year in which you paid the
registration fees. Receipts are not required to be
submitted as part of your income tax return. In the interest
of saving paper, time and money, CFR does not send out receipts for
registration fees. If you are audited or require a receipt
for other purposes, you can request a receipt by emailing the VP, Finance
and Administration.
For more details on this tax credit
refer to the Canada Revenue Agency. For information about 2010
Winter, Spring and Summer registration fees, please consult the FAQ
in the Parent’s
section on the CFR Web Site.

Composite Bat Ban Extended
|
|
Little League International
has recently extended its ban on the use of composite bats to all
Little League Divisions. The league is concerned that the
performance of these bats changes with use and eventually loses
compliance with safety regulations. In respect of the ban,
CFR will not permit the use of composite bats at any level during
their spring and summer programs, unless, the bats have been
exempted and approved for Little League play. For further
information, please consult the CFR Website.

Coaches Needed
|
|
With the season approaching, it is time for us to put out a
call for coaches for our Spring 2011 season. Our goal this upcoming
year is to have 3 dedicated coaches assigned to each team in order
to help manage the workload and allow coaches to take vacation. If
you or anyone you know is interested in helping out with a team,
whether as a helper, team manager, scorekeeper, assistant coach, or
head coach, please let us know. For our league to succeed and grow,
we need the help of dedicated volunteers to help teach our children
the game of baseball. If you are interested, please contact Chris Kazen
(Director, Player Development and Coaching) with your name, contact
information, desired position, and division you are interested in
coaching. Please note that in order for anyone to coach a summer
“playdown” team they need to be a spring coach. To support
the development of our coaches, certification training (levels 1
and 2) through the National
Coaching Certification Program (NCCP) may be offered. If
interested, please contact Chris Kazen as soon as possible.

And Umpires, Too
|
|
Just as we are looking for volunteers to coach teams, we are
also looking for adults and youth who are interested in umpiring
games at all age levels within our league. Whether you are a parent
looking for a volunteer opportunity, CFR alum, or current player at
least 13 years old, we need to identify prospective umpires for the
2011 season now. This is typically one of the most difficult roles for
us to fill and we would be overjoyed to identify people willing to
help fill out our umpiring staff this year. For adults, umpiring
offers more flexibility than other Little League volunteer
positions as you can determine your schedule depending on your availability.
For youth, umpiring is a great opportunity to develop leadership
skills. All umpires are eligible to be paid. In keeping with
LL’s volunteer philosophy, adult umps are welcome to umpire as
volunteers. Training is provided free of charge (Level I is a
one-day commitment and allows you to umpire up to and including the
Major level). If you are interested, check out our website or
please contact our Umpire-In-Chief, Doug
Pelchat.
|
Sponsorship Program
|
|
Every year our league depends on local businesses to help
cover operating costs through sponsorship of our league. If you
know of a business that would be willing to provide financial
assistance or donate goods or services to help our league, please
contact CFR
President, Pete Loyen. More information can be found on our
website, including a sponsorship form.

Feedback Survey for Summer Baseball Program
|
|
The CFR Executive would like to thank all parents who
completed the survey seeking feedback about our Summer Baseball
Program. Overall, parents were positive about the summer
baseball experience. However, some areas for improvement were
identified. We will use this information to enhance our programs,
ensuring the best possible experience for each child. Also,
we will continue to seek your feedback so that we can monitor our
progress.

Your CFR Little League Executive
