Minor, Rookie and Major Player Evaluations: What to Expect? |
We will have a registration table set-up at
Notre Dame
High School, at the back
door near the cafeteria. When you arrive at the school, you must
sign in and each player will be assigned a number. This number is
how the evaluators will identify each child. Once a player receives
a number, they will be directed to the appropriate location in the school gym.
There will be multiple “stations” where players
will run through a series of drills to assess their ability to
throw, catch, and hit. Players will rotate through these stations
while individuals from CFR Little League evaluate each player’s
skills.
The goal of
evaluations is to give each coach the same information about each
player with the intent of balancing our spring season teams for
fair competition. Player evaluations should not be an intimidating
or stressful experience for your child. Encourage your child
to listen to instructions and to do his or her best at each
activity. The different activities will help the league and
coaches provide a safe, fun baseball opportunity for each player
this spring. |
Player
Evaluations: What to Bring? |
Each child should come to
evaluations with a glove, helmet, jock/jill strap and appropriate
clothing and footwear. We recommend players wear long pants (sweat
pants or baseball pants) to the evaluations. |
Fat Cats
Baseball Club Special Promotion |
Ottawa’s own Fat Cats
Baseball Club is having a special promotion for CFR players… a
season’s pass for all home games (18) is only $5!!!
The home opener against the Kitchener Panthers is Saturday, May
21st. We will be taking orders for season’s passes during Player
Evaluations on April 16th, as well as during the player clinic on
May 7th. Passes will also be sold during Tee-Ball
evaluations. |
Coaches Needed |
If
you or anyone you know is interested in helping out with a team,
whether as a helper, team manager, scorekeeper, assistant coach, or
head coach, please contact Chris Kazen (Director,
Player Development and Coaching) with your name, contact
information, desired position, and division you are interested in. Please
note that in order for anyone to coach a summer “playdown” team
they must have been a spring coach. |
Coaching Clinics (April 17 and April 30) |
To
support the development of our coaches, we have organized two
coaching clinics. Dean Chamberlin, (CFR alum and formerly of
the Ottawa Knights) will be delivering a free clinic on Sunday, April
17. Along with this clinic, we will be holding the player
draft, handing out equipment bags and team jerseys. Lunch will be
provided.
As
well, Al Herback, Little League
Canada
’s national coach
and one of the creators of “Teaching for Tomorrow”, will be
delivering a clinic on April 30. There is no cost to
CFR coaches.
Further information about these
clinics can be found on the "Clinics" tab here. |
Umpires Needed – Umpiring Clinic (April 30) |
Whether
you are a parent looking for a volunteer opportunity, CFR alum, or
current player at least 13 years old, we need to identify
prospective umpires for the 2011 season now. This is typically one
of the most difficult roles for us to fill and we would be
overjoyed to identify people willing to help fill out our umpiring
staff this year.
For
adults, umpiring offers more flexibility than other Little League
volunteer positions as you can determine your schedule depending on
your availability. For youth, umpiring is a great opportunity to
develop leadership skills.
All
umpires are eligible to be paid. In keeping with LL’s
volunteer philosophy, adult umps are welcome to umpire as
volunteers.
Level
1/Introductory training will be provided free of charge on April 30
from 9:30AM- 3:00PM at Broadview
Public School (Level I is a one-day commitment and allows you
to umpire up to and including the Major level). Please bring
a lunch.
For returning umpires, a refresher
session will be held on April 30 from 2:30 – 4:00PM at
Broadview
Public School. If you are
interested, check out our website or please contact our
Umpire-In-Chief, Doug
Pelchat. |
Player Clinics |
For 2011, CFR is running 3 player
clinics. These clinics are currently scheduled for May 7, May 14,
and June 4 and are run by CFR alum and current Ottawa U Gee-Gee
Baseball Coach Larry Belanger. More information can be found on the "Clinics" tab at our website . |
