CFR Little League Newsletter

Welcome to the CFR Newsletter

June 2010

Dear CFR Little League Participant,

Welcome to the 5th edition of the CFR Newsletter. The newsletter is part of the continued effort of the CFR Executive to keep parents and players informed about the league throughout the year. This newsletter contains an update on our Spring Season and details on our upcoming Summer Season.

Summer Baseball

It seems like we just started our Spring Season, but it’s already time to start preparing for our Summer Baseball Season. Summer Baseball is a more competitive season than house-league where we play representative teams from other leagues in interlock schedules. Our goal is to have as many players as possible play summer baseball. If we have enough players interested, we will have both an “A” and “B” team per division. Our “A” team participates in the summer interlock schedule and also represents CFR at any tournaments, including district playdowns. The “B” teams will also play the interlock schedule but will not participate in representative level tournament or the district playdowns. We will make every effort to ensure any child who wants to play summer ball finds a time. It may be a CFR team or we may secure a spot on a team in another league if possible.

Registration fees for summer baseball are the same as our spring fees. The lone exception is Rookie, which is $100 for the summer session.

As there is only one A team in each level, we will be running tryouts for each division. All players interested in summer baseball should attend these tryouts. The schedules and head coaches are as follows:

Rookie

Rookie Head Coach is Clark Adams.

Tryouts are 9AM Saturday, June 11th at Frank Ryan Park and 6PM Tuesday, June 14th at JH Putman School (on Bel Air Drive).

Minor

Minor Head Coach is Chris Kazen

Tryouts are June 21, June 22, and June 23 at Frank Ryan Park. Practice starts at 6PM.

Major

We are still determining the Major coach and will communicate this information once the decision is finalized.

Tryouts are June 21 and June 23 at Frank Ryan Park. Practice starts at 6PM. [Major A: Mike Wallace, Major B: Scott Meyer – June 22 Update]

Junior

Junior Head Coach is Dave Dunn.

Tryouts are June 11 at Hanlon Park. Practice starts at 6PM.

Playoff Weekend/Fun Day

Yes, it’s time to start planning for our year end playoff tournament. Playoff tournaments will run the weekend of June 19. The tournament schedule will be communicated to your coaches as soon as possible. But please plan your weekend now!

We’re pairing playoff weekend with Fun Day for players. We’ll have a BBQ, games, and skills competitions going on all day. Plus we’re planning a special T-Ball event this year that is sure to captivate.

Lastly, we are calling all bakers to bring donations for a bake sale on this weekend. Channel your inner baker and please bring along any baked goods you are willing to donate. If you do have goods you are willing to donate as part of our bake sale, please bring them with you to the tournament and drop them off at our BBQ booth to any CFR volunteer. All proceeds go to help fund the continued operations of our league. If you have further questions about the bake sale, please contact Sharon Drolet.

Season Update

We’ve had lots of action already this year. All our house-leagues have welcomed teams from Pinecrest, who are participating in our Rookie, Minor, Major, and Junior house league divisions.

All our house-leagues are in the stretch run, with teams jockeying for position as we near the playoffs. Check out our league standings for more details.

Thank you to our sponsors

We would like to take this time to thank our league sponsors. Our league relies heavily on the donations of local businesses to make our league a success. This year CFR has several local sponsors we wish to thank. These are Shoeless Joe’s who have provided donations and the Morris Home Team who generously sponsored our Rookie Division.

Sincerely,

Your CFR Little League Executive
