CFR Little League Newsletter

Welcome to the CFR Newsletter

April 2010

Dear CFR Little League Participant,

Welcome to the 4th edition of the CFR Newsletter. The newsletter is part of the continued effort of the CFR Executive to keep parents and players informed about the league throughout the year. This newsletter contains the information needed for you to prepare for the upcoming player evaluations.

Adult Umpires Needed

Finding umpires is a challenge for any league. CFR Little League is no different. While we have a number of teenage umpires who are either current players in CFR or are CFR alumni, we need adult umpires to act as mentors or to umpire at our senior levels. If you or someone you know is interested in umpiring, please email our Umpire in Chief directly.

If you have volunteered to umpire, thank you and note that we have an umpiring clinic on Saturday, April 24 starting at 9AM at the CFR Clubhouse at Frank Ryan Park.

Late Registration

Please note that we will accept registrants now and on evaluation day. If you or someone you know still wishes to register for CFR Spring Baseball, please complete the registration form and either email it to our registrar or bring it to evaluation day. In each case please come to evaluation day with a copy of the form and cheque to register.

Player Evaluations: When and where

It’s hard to believe, but player evaluation time is here. Please read below for relevant details for evaluations. Please come to the designated park rain or shine. If the evaluations are rained out, the make-up date is Sunday, April 18th at the same times and locations as listed below.

T-Ball

There are no evaluations for t-ball. Players are automatically assigned to teams.

Minor, Rookie, Majors

Evaluations for these levels run Saturday, April 17 in the field behind Nepean High School. The times for each level are:

Minors:  10AM

Rookie:  1PM

Majors:  3PM

Juniors

Evaluations for Juniors run Saturday, April 17th at the upper diamond at Britannia Park. Evaluations start at 9AM.

Player Evaluations: What to expect?

We will have a registration table for evaluations at Nepean High School. When you arrive at the park, you must sign in. There will be a sign-in table staffed by members of the CFR executive. Please head to the table where each player will be assigned a number. This number is how the evaluators will identify each child. Once a player receives a number, they will be directed to the appropriate location on the field.

There will be multiple “stations” where players will run through a series of drills to assess their ability to throw, catch, and hit. Players will rotate through these stations while individuals from CFR Little League evaluate each player’s skills.

The goal of evaluations is to allow the league to balance teams as much as possible. The intent is to give each coach the same data and assessment of players with the intent of balancing our spring season teams for fair competition.

Player Evaluations: What to bring?

Each child should come to evaluations with a glove, helmet, jock/jill strap and appropriate clothing and footwear. We recommend players wear long pants (sweat pants or baseball pants) to the evaluations.

When the spring season starts, players are required to have all equipment listed above. You can purchase the equipment above at any large retailer or sporting goods store. If your child is thinking of playing summer baseball then black baseball pants are required. A CFR representative will be at evaluation days with sample pants available for ordering. Baseball socks and belts will also be available for purchase at evaluations.

CFR will supply each player with a team shirt and hat and each team with catcher’s equipment, bats, and baseballs.

Player Evaluations: Team Assignments

Team assignments are set on Sunday, April 19th. Once assignments are complete coaches will contact players during the week of April 19th with the team assignment and next steps to start the season. If you do not hear from a coach by April 23rd please contact your league convenor or our Director, Coaching and Player Development

Sincerely,

Your CFR Little League Executive
